The Continuing Growth of the Internet

Home>Web Site Design>The Continuing Growth of the Internet

The last two years have seen a rapid expansion in the growth of the Internet. According to recent research carried

48,000 people in the UK try the Internet for the first time every day
100 million people are already connected to the Internet and this figure will continue to rise.(The Economist)
By the year 2000, 66 million households are expected to be connected. (The Economist ).
40% of Internet users go on line every day (Business Computer World)
British use of the Internet is growing by at least 10 to 15 percent per month, the highest sustained growth rate in Europe. (Synetia)
Around two-thirds of users in the workplace are from large businesses (200 or more employees). (Synetia)
The number of users among firms with fewer than 50 employees has more than doubled and now accounts for just over 25 percent of all Internet users in the workplace. (Synetia)

Since 1995 the number of the users on the Internet has doubled in size every year and this rate of growth looks likely to continue. Initial fears about the Internet collapsing due to the number of new users have now receded as the major telephone companies such as BT, MCI and AT & T who carry the majority of Internet traffic, have invested in new systems.

Initial research into the "average" Internet indicates that they are well educated, highly paid and spend a considerable amount of time on the Internet.
